About me
About Me
Hi, I'm Carla, founder of The Gentle Start. I'm a registered nurse, practising midwife and mum of three, and I'm passionate about helping expectant parents approach birth feeling informed, prepared and supported.
I currently work as a labour ward midwife, supporting women and families throughout labour, birth and the immediate postnatal period. Working in maternity care every day means the education I provide through The Gentle Start is grounded not only in evidence, but in a current understanding of the questions, decisions and experiences parents may encounter during birth.
My career began in acute medical nursing before I went on to qualify as a midwife. Since then, I've worked across antenatal, labour and postnatal care, supporting families through pregnancy, birth and those important early days with their baby.
Alongside my clinical work, I completed a Level 9 Certificate in Early Pregnancy Ultrasound and additional training in aromatherapy for childbirth, broadening the knowledge and practical tools I can bring to my work with expectant parents.
I created The Gentle Start because I wanted antenatal education to feel calm, practical and supportive, a place where you and your birth partner can ask questions, understand your options and prepare for the different paths birth can take.
My aim isn't to tell you what your birth should look like. It's to give you the knowledge and practical preparation to help you approach labour, birth and early parenthood with greater confidence and clarity.
Because every family deserves a gentle, informed start.
